New resource for Legal English students released by Harvard Law

Our colleagues at Harvard University have released a wonderful new resource for Legal English students.

A new resource from our friends at Harvard University Law allows students of Legal English and TOLES to explore the use of language over 360 years of case law in the United States.

“Historical Trends” was built by the Harvard Law School Library Innovation Lab and is available to all.

“I think it’s a good example of a research tool that we can offer that commercial providers have never been inclined to explore,” said Adam Ziegler, director of the Harvard Law School Library Innovation Lab. Touche, Adam.

The resource allows students of Legal English to explore the use of language in US case law dating back to the 18th century. A user can see the development of a word such as “privacy,” which was not particularly common in the 19th and early 20th centuries before appearing far more in cases of the 1950s and 1960s.
